Bringing Ancient History to Life: UQ Museum Excursion

Bringing Ancient History to Life: UQ Museum Excursion
Rachael Adamson, Head of HASS Years 10-12

The Ancient History excursion on Friday 20 February to the Antiquities Museum at the University of Queensland was a great success!

Around thirty Year 11 and 12 Ancient History students attended, along with history teachers Mrs Adamson, Mrs Sullivan and Mrs Braybrooke, and history enthusiast Mrs McFall, to learn about daily life and burial practices in the ancient civilisations of Egypt, Rome and Greece.

Museum Tour & Expert Insights

The day included a tour of the museum with a talk on selected items and two workshops. Much fun was had in learning correct mummification techniques and putting them into practice on wooden dolls.

Handling Ancient Artefacts

The highlight of the day was being allowed to handle artefacts that are thousands of years old. The students examined a number of items and then used their historical skills to interpret what they thought the artefact was used for in a villa in ancient Rome.

Outstanding Student Engagement

The students were a credit to the school with their clear engagement and interest with the workshops and their excellent behaviour. A fantastic day was had by all.
