Faith Students Shine in Ethics Olympiad Debut

Late last term marked an exciting milestone for Faith as our first team competed in the Ethics Olympiad - a collaborative online competition where students explore complex moral issues and engage respectfully with different perspectives.

Our inaugural Year 10 team - Beka T, Megan D, and Abigail T - represented the school with distinction. Over eight weeks of preparation, they met weekly to learn ethical theories and apply them to a range of case studies, strengthening both their critical thinking and communication skills. Unlike a debate, students in the Ethics Olympiad present and defend their own viewpoints. Success is based on clear reasoning, depth of thought, and respectful dialogue.

During the competition, the team discussed the following case studies:

• In-vitro meat and access for wealthy people – Lab-grown meat as a sustainable option, but expensive and not accessible to everyone.
• Salacious gossip – Sharing private information about others and its impact on privacy and respect.
• Redefining humanity – Gene editing and how it could change health, traits, and what it means to be human.
• A monthly subscription to brutality – True crime shows and whether they turn real suffering into entertainment.

Throughout the day, Beka, Megan, and Abigail engaged thoughtfully, asked perceptive questions, and contributed with confidence. They also brought a Christian perspective where appropriate, modelling respectful and reflective discussion. Faith Christian College was also awarded an Honourable Mention by the judges, recognising the team’s thoughtful engagement and strong contribution throughout the competition.
