FFL Students Make History on Their First-Ever Duke of Ed Camp!

FFL Students Make History on Their First-Ever Duke of Ed Camp!
Ross McIvor, Outdoor Educator

From the 24th to the 26th of March, six students and two staff from the Faith Flexible Learning School joined Mr Ross McIvor and Mr Ricko Levinson to take part in the first ever FFL camp as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award program!

The students and staff completed an "Adventurous Journey" at Wyaralong Dam, near Beaudesert, that had them paddling canoes, hiking up mountains, sleeping in tents and learning valuable skills such as navigation, water purification, camp cooking, why you should always zip up your tent (clue - 🪳lots of bugs in the bush 🦟) and how to dig deep when things get tough.

Despite some unexpected challenges, such as capsizing their canoes, sleeping on uncomfortable mats, running out of snacks after eating them all on day 1 and realising that mountains are indeed hard to walk up, everyone involved had an amazing time and grew not just in themselves but as a team. It was an incredible experience and set the benchmark for what we hope are many more FFL camps still to come in the future. Well done to everyone involved (including Mr Luke and Mr Chris!).
