Guiding Our Students: Highlights from Careers and Future Pathways Night
Faith News

On August 6, Faith Christian School hosted its highly anticipated, first-ever Careers and Future Pathways Night for Year 9 and 10 students and their families.

Welcome and Prayer

The evening was warmly welcomed by Principal Mr Graeme Johnston, who opened the night and led with an encouraging prayer.

School Vision and Christian Purpose

Deputy Principal Mr Douglas Stuart-Adams outlined the school’s vision for student success, personal growth, and purposeful living beyond their schooling years, as well as sharing a brief reflection on the Christian concept of calling and God-given purpose, reinforcing the spiritual foundation of the school’s mission.

Senior Studies Overview

Following this, Head of Senior Studies Mr Julian Fanning provided an informative presentation on important academic milestones. He emphasised Year 10 as a foundational year and discussed the transition into senior schooling, explaining the various subject types available, outlining the SATE framework and clarifying the differences between ATAR and alternative pathways to further education or employment.

Main Session: Future Pathways

The main session was presented by Future Pathways Officer Mr Joel Chandler, who delivered an overview of post-school options, including the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA), Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE), ATAR, VET, apprenticeships, and school-based traineeships. He discussed important subject selection decisions and introduced career interest mapping tools like MyFuture and QTAC. Mr Chandler illustrated these pathways with real examples of past student journeys to provide practical context.

Q&A and Networking

The night ended with pre-submitted and live questions, practical advice, and encouragement. Families then enjoyed tea, coffee, and snacks, connecting with staff and each other.

The event empowered Year 9 and 10 students with valuable insights and support to confidently plan their futures.
