Important Update: New Social Media Law from 10 December

Important Update: New Social Media Law from 10 December
From the IT team

From 10 December 2025, Australian law will require major social media platforms - including YouTube (except YouTube Kids) - to block accounts for anyone under 16.

What does this mean for Faith families?

  1. Students will no longer be able to use regular YouTube while logged into their school account and using Google Chrome.

  2. They can still view public YouTube videos if logged out of their school account or by using a different browser like Microsoft Edge.

  3. On Chromebooks, this is harder because the device login is tied to the Google account. While Guest Mode can work, it’s not ideal for everyday use. Families may need a different device to access YouTube video links in workbooks.

This change is designed to protect young people online. For more details and tips on preparing, visit eSafety.gov.au.
