Junior Students Shine in Ethics Olympiad Debut

Our Junior Ethics Olympiad team recently represented the school with distinction at the 2026 competition held on 19 June. The Ethics Olympiad is an academic team event where students discuss complex, real-world ethical issues. Rather than debating to “win,” students collaborate to explore different perspectives, justify their reasoning, and engage respectfully with others’ ideas. Teams are assessed on the quality of their thinking, their ability to build on each other’s contributions, and the depth of their ethical understanding.

Competing against 18 teams from across Australia, our students achieved an impressive 9th place overall and were also awarded an Honourable Mention by the judges - recognising the high quality of their discussion, reasoning, and teamwork.

Our team including Samuel M, Emily T, Malachi L, Isabella S, and Alexis S — demonstrated outstanding dedication in preparing for the competition. They engaged deeply with a range of challenging ethical cases, including:

• eSports and wellbeing
• The treatment of animals
• Keeping promises
• Hurting others and self-control
• Truth and “white lies” 
• Caring for others and the environment.

These topics encouraged them to consider multiple perspectives and develop thoughtful, well-reasoned responses.

On the day, our team showcased excellent critical thinking and respectful dialogue. They listened carefully, built on each other’s ideas, and confidently expressed their viewpoints while remaining open to challenge. Their collaboration and support for one another were a highlight of their performance, with each student making an invaluable contribution. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented our school with integrity, maturity, and enthusiasm. Congratulations to our team on a fantastic achievement!
