Meet Coco-Juliette

Coco-Juliette Moss is one of our Faith Students in Year 8. Coco-Juliette is currently training with the goal of becoming a professional ballerina.

What achievement or opportunity are you currently working towards or celebrating?

I was recently accepted into the Level 5 International Program at the Queensland Ballet Academy, where only a small number of students are selected. I am also training for my Intermediate Foundation exam and working on improving my pointe work. Over the Easter holidays I will also be competing in the CDS Scholarships Ballet Competition, which I’m really excited about.

What does a typical week of training look like for you?

I attend my regular dance school three nights a week. I also spend one full day each week training with Claudia Dean World and have several private lessons during the week. As part of my program, I also attend Queensland Ballet Academy for one full week each term.

How do you balance your training with school?

At the start of each week I plan everything out. I look at my classes and assessments and try to start my schoolwork early so I can stay organised. If things get really busy with training, I talk to my teachers about extensions. Being organised helps me enjoy both school and dance.

How has Faith Christian School supported you?

My teachers are very supportive and understanding of my training schedule. They are always willing to help if I need an extension. The school has also created a personalised learning program so I can focus on my core subjects, which helps me balance school with training, exams and competitions.

What is one challenge you’ve faced, and how have you worked through it?

One challenge is preparing for big competitions while also having a lot of school assessments. It can sometimes feel stressful, but planning ahead really helps. I try to start my assessments early so I’m not rushing when things get busy.

Who has encouraged you the most along the way?

My mum has been my biggest supporter. She drives me to all my training and helps me stay organised with my schedule and schoolwork.

What advice would you give to other students pursuing high-performance pathways?

Practice a little every day, even if it’s only for half an hour. Small improvements add up over time. Staying organised and making weekly task lists really helps too. I also make sure I have at least one rest day each week because rest is important. If you work hard and believe in yourself, you can achieve your goals.
