Student Spotlight - Lucas

By sharing these stories, we aim to inspire others in our Faith community to give their best, stay committed, and find joy in the challenges and triumphs of sport - both on and off the field.

Lucas Stockham

What sport(s) do you currently play or compete in?

Field Hockey and Indoor Hockey

How long have you been playing or training in this sport?

This is my fourth year of field hockey and I have played indoor hockey for two years.

What or who inspired you to start playing this sport?

My older brothers already played hockey and I thought it looked fun so I wanted to try it too.

Why do you compete in sport?

Fitness, Fun, Challenge, Friends and Competition. It's fun to make new friends on rep teams too, and it's good to have different coaching as well.

What motivates you to keep training and competing?

Team success. Hockey is fun to play and I like to play as a team. I like to keep building on my skills as well.

What’s one memorable moment or achievement in your sporting journey so far?

Getting a player of the match award on the Met East Team during State Championships, and winning the junior sportsmanship award for my local club. I also liked meeting Steve Rogers who is the Australian umpire that umpired the men's gold medal hockey match at the 2024 Paris Olympics and is the international hockey umpire of the year for 2024.

Would you rather fight 1 horse-sized duck or 1,000 duck-sized horses? And why?

Probably the horse-sized duck so I can try and bribe it with food. It can live in my pool.
