Time to Step Up! On Stage, In Character, and On Target

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
— Matthew 5:16

Welcome back to Term 4! We hope you and your family had a restful break and are ready for what promises to be a vibrant, fast-paced, and deeply meaningful final term of the school year.

Term 4 is traditionally a season of reflection and celebration. It is a time when we look back at how much our students have grown academically, socially, and spiritually, and celebrate the unique gifts and growth God has cultivated in each of them.

As we navigate the busy weeks ahead, we want to highlight four major focal points for this term: our upcoming milestone celebrations, the highly anticipated Year 12 Formal, Year 6 Graduation and the official rollout of our upgraded Student Award and Co-curricular Badge System.

Preparing for Awards Night Events

Our annual Awards Night events are a highlight of the school calendar, providing a formal opportunity to honour our students' dedication, academic perseverance, Christian character, and service to others.

We will hold 13 Awards Nights across the state over 4 days. This is a big undertaking for all staff involved. Please note that your child’s awards will be presented at the designated Awards Night for your specific region listed on your profile in Learning at Faith.

We understand that our distance education families are spread far and wide, and we want to ensure everyone can celebrate safely and conveniently. If your family is unable to attend your regional event, please rest assured that your child's award certificates will be emailed directly to you so you can print them out at home.

Spotlight: New Academic & Engagement Awards

Alongside our new co-curricular badges, our academic criteria have been upgraded to recognise students who truly go above and beyond. Keep an eye out for these exciting new honours at this year's regional events:

  • Top Rural Dux (New Medallion): Exclusively celebrating our highest-performing students in Years 6, 9, and 12 who reside outside the Southeast Corner. All subjects must be taken to qualify. (SEQ is Gold Coast, South Brisbane, North Brisbane, Sunshine Coast)

  • Dux / Proxime Accessit (New Medallion): Awarded to the top academic achievers in Years 6, 9, and 12 who complete all subjects.

  • Top Ten! (New Certificate): Recognising the top ten overall performing students in Years 6, 9, and 12 across all subjects.

  • Learning@Faith Outstanding Progress: Given for outstanding progress, now requiring students to improve by 1.5 levels (up from 1 level).

  • Academic Excellence: Now recognising students who achieve an A- grade or higher.

For more details on requirements, you can access the full booklet via the Faith Awards Parent Guide.

Celebrating the Year 12 Formal

To our Year 12 families, the finish line is in sight! The Year 12 Formal is a beautiful rite of passage, allowing us to celebrate our graduating seniors as they prepare to step out into the world. It is a night of elegance, fellowship, and joy.

As preparations hit full swing, we remind students and parents to review the formal guidelines regarding attire and timing to ensure the evening runs smoothly and reflects the values of our school community. Please join us in praying for our Year 12 cohort during these final weeks of assessments and exams. We are so incredibly proud of the young men and women they are becoming.

Celebrating Year 6 Graduation

Our Year 6 students are also preparing for an important milestone as they conclude their primary school journey. In November, we look forward to celebrating our graduating Year 6 cohort with a Graduation Ceremony, recognising their achievements, growth, and the many memories they have created during their primary years at Faith.

Following the ceremony, students will have the opportunity to enjoy a social gathering together, celebrating their hard work and the friendships they have built along the way. We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 students and look forward to marking this special occasion as they prepare to take their next steps into secondary education.

Introducing Our New Co-Curricular Badge System

We are thrilled to officially launch the upgraded Faith Christian School Student Badge System. This initiative has been designed to recognise students who take on extra challenges across six distinct areas, known as "Colours".

Students who meet the strict criteria earn a physical metal badge to wear on their Faith shirt at their Awards Night, alongside a digital badge activated on their Learning@Faith portal. The physical badges are customised by cohort, featuring a 20mm Pin for Primary (Years 4–6), a 38mm x 8mm bar for Secondary (Years 7–9), and a 25mm round badge for Senior Secondary (Years 10–12).

The six categories are split cleanly into Group Character Development and Individual Personal Development pathways:

Character Development Badges (Group Activities)

  • White – Faith Works: Earned through major leadership, pastoral care, or mission project delivery, such as actively running student activities or the Interact Club.

  • Khaki – Faith Walks: Earned through outdoor education excellence, requiring three significant approved journeys like a Duke of Edinburgh expedition or Kokoda walk.

  • Red – Faith Sports: Awarded via a strict points accumulation system overseen by the Sports Coordinator for training dedication, age championships, and regional/state representation.

Personal Development Badges (Individual Activities)

  • Blue – Faith Speaks: Earned via public speaking and debating by presenting three pre-approved, original public speeches in front of a live, physical audience.

  • Yellow – Faith Arts: Earned through three live arts performances (music, dance, drama, or sculpture exhibits), requiring original elements for older students.

  • Green – Faith Grows: A rigorous community project badge requiring a formal written proposal, a student log spanning 90 to 180 days, and a final handwritten summary report.

While this inaugural year has involved a teacher-guided nomination process, students will soon be shown how they can contribute their own nominations and evidence in future years as they pursue these honours with diligence, humility, and godly character.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership, prayers, and support. Let’s make Term 4 a season that honours God and celebrates the incredible community He has built here at Faith Christian School.

Blessings,

Mr Graeme Johnston
