Update to Lesson Recordings and Use of Videos

Update to Lesson Recordings and Use of Videos
Mel Griffith, Head of Primary

To ensure we continue to meet our copyright obligations, there will be a small change to how videos appear in lesson recordings.

From now on, video content shown during live lessons will not appear in lesson recordings. This means that while teachers and students will view videos together during the live lesson, the video itself will not be visible when families watch the lesson back.

To support this change, teachers will be using the YouTube Extension within Microsoft Teams Meeting Rooms during live lessons. This allows videos to be viewed live in a compliant way while teaching continues as normal.

We would like to reassure families that curriculum videos used during lessons will continue to be provided - either within student workbooks for our younger learners or within the weekly focus for our older students. This ensures that students and families can access and watch any required videos independently when reviewing lesson content or watching recordings at a later time.

Watching Live Lessons – What Parents and Students Need to Know

If you are observing a live lesson and notice that a video cannot be seen or heard, the following tips may help:

If the video is not working during a live lesson:

o   Leave and rejoin the meeting, or restart the app/browser

o   Logging out and logging back into Teams may also resolve the issue

Important audio note:

o   Audio is not enabled by default when videos are played using the YouTube extension

o   Students must click the speaker/audio icon within the video to turn the sound on

Thank you for your understanding and support as we make these adjustments. These changes allow us to continue delivering engaging lessons while ensuring we meet our legal and ethical responsibilities.
