Meet Mr Raymond Te Amo

Mr Raymond Te Amo is one of our wonderful Senior Secondary Teachers at Faith!

I have over 20 years of teaching experience in New Zealand, Australia, the Middle East, and South East Asia.

I have a Masters of Teaching, Certificate in English as a Second Language Teaching, and a Diploma of leadership from Vision Leadership College in NZ.

What do you love most about your role at Faith?

Connection with students in live lessons. I try to make my lessons both interesting and fun. One way I do this is in not taking myself too seriously and by treating students as people, while taking my subject and relationship with God very seriously.

What is a fun fact about you?

I am a Star Wars geek who always has his nose in a book of some kind. I like fantasy, thrillers, science fiction, and crime. I tried to read a Mills and Boon once and was literally sick by page 4. Romance novels are a NO GO!

What inspired you to work in your current role?

The challenge to educate online was strange at first. I still found I could make just as much of an impact online as I could in a classroom. Plus, I get to work from home so the fridge is never far away.

Where is your favourite place on earth, and why?

Any beach that does not currently have a tsunami coming in. The beach is my meditative space for thinking through big life churning things. Plus, it has fresh air attached.

What is the most rewarding part of working with students?

The conversations that we elicit from discussions. There are times when we are on a good roll and I sometimes have to give up my lesson plan because we are discussing topics of interest.

What is your favorite book or film and why?

That's like asking me to pick my favourite star in the sky. If you love literature or cinematography you can't pick just one! P.S. My favourite star is Cetus or Axólotl to call it by it's modern day name because I love Axólotls..
