Meet Mrs Jenny Thornton

Mrs Jenny Thornton is our wonderful Head of Science for Senior Secondary at Faith!

I have a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Physiology and a Postgrad Diploma of Education in Biology, Maths and Agriculture. I taught for a number of years in both Christian and state schools, including a stint teaching in Japan. Having met my husband at Church and starting a family, I took a long hiatus from the school system and home educated my four children. We joined Faith as my oldest daughter started Year 10, and that turned out to be a wonderful experience for us all. All four children have since graduated from Faith and have all gone on to university degrees, with two of them doing education degrees.

In 2017, I was asked to start teaching Biology and Maths at Faith, and I enthusiastically accepted the position while having three of my children still in Faith themselves. A couple of years later, I accepted a full-time position and became the Head of Senior Science at the beginning of 2022. I currently teach Senior Biology and am HOD of Science for years 10 to 12.

More about Jenny

What do you love most about your role at Faith?

I love being able to marvel with my students at the extraordinary intricacy of God's creation as I teach Biology.

What is a fun fact about you?

When my kids were little, we lived in Fiji for a year and a half, leading a Church there.

What inspired you to work in your current role?

I am really grateful to have a role in a Christian distance ed school that is providing the opportunity for many more children to have the same wonderful experience that my kids had of learning at home with a strong Christian focus.

Where is your favourite place on earth, and why?

Banff in Canada because snow is magical and skiing through forest trails is amazing.

What is the most rewarding part of working with students?

I love helping students along in their educational journey, and I get the chance to share how amazing God's power is in my own life and encourage them to see God's hand in their own lives.

What is your favorite book or film and why?

My favourite book is the Bible because I get changed from the inside out every day by the power of God's words.
