Meet Ms Sarah Hummerston

Ms Sarah Hummerston is our Drama and Dance Teacher for Primary and Secondary at Faith!

I was a student at Faith, right from when this school first started, up until I graduated in Year 12. I then returned as a staff member in 2021 to pursue my passion for distance education. I began teaching drama, dance and musical theatre in 2017. Since then, I have worked with students aged 3 to 19 years and have directed plays and musicals. I have performed solo and as part of amazing teams in various plays, shows, musicals, competitions and short films.

When I’m not immersed in the performing arts I enjoy the great outdoors. I love camping, hiking, four-wheel driving, kayaking and rodeos. The best adventure, for me, is exploring and travelling all over Australia.

I am continuously inspired by God as the master Creator. His creation never ceases to amaze me with its beauty and awe. We are created in God’s image which makes us creative. I love finding new ways to bring glory to God through creativity and performing arts.

More about Sarah

What is a fun fact about you?

I have been to all the states and territories in Australia.

What inspired you to work in your current role?

I have loved teaching since I was very young and performing arts has always been a major part of my life. I am so happy to be sharing what I love at the school that I attended throughout high school.

Where is your favourite place on earth, and why?

All of Tasmania. I love the mountains and natural landscapes. My extended family also live in Tasmania.

What is the most rewarding part of working with students?

I find it so rewarding to see students experience the joy in the performing arts and make new discoveries. Seeing their confidence and creativity grow is truly the best.

What is your favorite book or film and why?

The Matilda Saga by Jackie French. I love seeing Australian history through the eyes of one family and their love of the land.
