Meet Tygue

Tygue joined the Mathematics Department at Faith in January 2022, where he played an instrumental role in developing the current Years 7–9 Mathematics Program. He is now dedicated to leading a foundational class designed to bridge the gap for students who need to master essential skills before tackling year-level content.

Passionate about fostering success in mathematics, Tygue strongly believes that every student can thrive under the right conditions.

Before embarking on his teaching journey, Tygue spent 13 years working as a mining engineer in the mining industry. During a transitional phase in his career, he earned a Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery and worked as a chef for 15 months - bringing a unique blend of practical experience and versatility to his teaching approach.

Tygue and his wife, Andrea, met as graduates in the mining industry in South Africa and married just before immigrating to Australia. They spent four years in Whyalla, South Australia, before relocating to Brisbane. They now reside on a small acreage with their two children, Connor and Katelyn, along with a diverse collection of animals - including a hairless Sphynx cat and a 60kg dog.

As a family, they enjoy camping, trips to the beach, and spending time outdoors.

What is a fun fact about you?

When I was in school I used to say that I would NEVER become a teacher. Never say never.

Where is your favourite place on earth, and why?

The beach. I love the ocean and I find being near it both calming and rejuvenating.
