Essential English
Applied Senior Subject
Essential English offers students a practical English course where they develop skills to understand how texts create meaning and skills to create texts for particular purpose.
Essential English develops and refines students’ language, literature and literacy skills which enable them to interact confidently and effectively with others in everyday, community, social and applied learning contexts. Essential English is suited to students who are interested in pathways beyond Year 12 that lead to vocational education or work.
Prerequisites
Students should have achieved C or equivalent in 10 Foundation English
Pathways
A course of study in Essential English promotes open-mindedness, imagination, critical awareness and intellectual flexibility — skills that prepare students for local and global citizenship, and for lifelong learning across a wide range of contexts.
