Are you ready to take your mathematical skills to the next level? Year 10 Advanced Mathematics is designed for students who enjoy solving complex problems, thinking logically, and applying mathematical concepts to real-world scenarios. This subject builds a strong foundation for senior mathematics and opens doors to a wide range of academic and career pathways.

Year 10 Advanced Mathematics is designed to cover the advanced units of Australian Curriculum v9.0 and prepare students for both Year 11 Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics in consultation with their SETP.

Students should have achieved:

a high B standard (A preferable) or equivalent in 9 Maths

Students will: solve quadratic equations using factorisation, completing the square, the Quadratic Formula and technology identify, calculate and sketch the characteristics of the graph of a quadratic equation apply Pythagoras' Theorem to 2D and 3D shapes apply trigonometric ratios in right angled triangle problems apply their knowledge of Pythagoras' Theorem and Trigonometric ratios to applications such as angles of elevation and depression and problems involving bearings use mathematical modelling to solve practical problems involving proportion and scaling use deductive reasoning, theorems and algorithms to solve spatial problems solve measurement problems involving surface area and volume of composite objects	Students will: consider univariate and bivariate data represent bivariate data in scatterplots identify and describe the correlation between two sets of data use technology to determine a line of best fit for linear correlation use a line of best fit to interpolate and extrapolate data compare the distribution of continuous numerical data using various displays discuss distributions in terms of centre, spread, shape and outliers consider populations, samples and sampling of data investgate the Normal Distribution	Students will: interpret networks used to represent practical situations and describe connectedness apply conditional probability to solve problems involving compound events. design and conduct simulations involving conditional probability, using digital tools. identify the impact of measurement errors on the accuracy of results. analyse inferences and conclusions in the media, noting potential sources of bias

Essential Equipment

Assessment

Formative assessment

Formative Assessment provides critical feedback to both students and teachers about student progress in the course of study. It does not count towards student grades. Regular formative assessment will occur in the form of online quizzes through JacPlus. The quizzes with be automatically marked and immediate feedback will be available.

Summative assessment

Summative Assessment counts towards student grades and is averaged across two terms for each semester report. Assessment Adjustments for identified students are administered by Home Educators. These include 5 mins per 30 mins working time for Extra Time in Exams AND 5 mins per 30 minutes for Rest breaks. Extra time on assignments in available in consultation with Learning Enrichment.

Exam Conditions:

Exam is available for 48 hours
Working Time: 90 minutes + 5 minutes perusal
Type: Individual, supervised
Part A: Simple Familiar 60%
Part B: Complex Familiar 20%
Part B: Complex Unfamiliar 20%
Technology: Scientific calculator use is expected
Exams need to be downloaded, completed and uploaded as per the task instructions, under home educator supervision.

Problem Solving and Modelling Task (PSMT) conditions:

Type: Individual assignment
Format: Mathematical report (typed)
Page Count: Up to 6 pages
Word Count: Maximum 600-800 words
Technology: Scientific calculator, Google Sheets and or Excel use may be required.
