Work Experience - Host Guide
Preparing Students for Life Beyond School
Hosting Workplace Experience?
Work Experience is a chance for our students to explore different careers, to gain confidence and to understand what real workplaces are like. It is an opportunity for students to develop employability skills such as communication, teamwork and reliability. It will help them understand expectations around behaviour, punctuality and responsibility within the workplace.
We would like to thank you for providing a valuable work experience opportunity for a student from Faith Christian School of Distance Education. Industry engagement is a vital part in helping students to achieve success in their chosen pathways.
In Queensland, work experience placements for students is undertaken under legislated educational requirements as outlined in the Work Experience Placements for School Students Procedure and the Education (Work Experience) Act 1996.
This guide outlines some of the important information you need to know.

Host Employer Responsibilities:
It is the responsibility of the Host Employer to ensure the student has a safe environment in which to work.
The Host Employer should induct the student into the workplace on the first day of the placement by:
-
Explaining Workplace Health & Safety procedures in regard to bullying, harassment & discrimination along with any other Codes of Conduct relevant to your workplace
-
Explain the tasks the student is expected to undertake
-
Explain the process of reporting problems or issues to their workplace supervisor. If this situation arises the Work Experience Coordinator must be contacted immediately, via email Mrs Jennifer Penfold or phone (07) 3059 1881 EXT 435
A workplace supervisor will be allocated to the student. You must ensure this person is aware of their role and responsibilities during the placement.
You must provide students with relevant and appropriate training where required. The student must have direct supervision at all times while undertaking work-related activities.
As the Host Employer, you will explain work tasks clearly and implement any reasonable adjustments where appropriate for students with additional educational needs.
The Work Experience Coordinator will be contacted in the event of any issues that arise with the student, including notification of their absence from work experience. It is also your responsibility to ensure the student’s supervisor has the Work Experience Coordinator’s contact details.
The Work Experience Coordinator will be notified immediately of any incident or accident involving the student as well as any action undertaken. Any damage to property involving the student during their placement will also be reported.
As the Host Employer you will maintain confidentiality of the student’s personal and medical information, disposing of any hard copies in a timely and careful manner.
Upon completion of the work experience period, the employer must complete the required Work Experience Employer Survey feedback form.
Prohibited Work Experience Activities:
You must ensure that students do not undertake any activities that are prohibited by law and therefore unsuitable for a student undertaking work experience.
Prohibited tasks for work experience students generally include any activity that is dangerous, requires high-level expertise, involves hazardous substances, or poses significant physical risk.
Prohibited and restricted activities include but are not limited to:
