The Certificate III in BSB30120 course addresses multi-functional business skills through 13 units, covering the important skills that transverse every work situation: communication, customer service, business documents, business opportunities and risks, workplace safety, critical thinking in a team environment and sustainable practices.

The primary method of learning for students in this course is a work placement in a workplace of their choosing combined with interactive online sessions with a qualified trainer. Students are required to attend a minimum of 20 days of work experience and complete the task requirements of each unit within the workplace. This gives them an opportunity to gain an insight into what tasks or job roles are undertaken in a real work situation.

The workplace for work placement may include a family business, church, local businesses, or a current place of employment.

Available for Year 11 and 12 students. Year 10 students may get early entry by pre-organising their work experience placement and a having informal interview with the trainer. Email christine.scott@faith.qld.edu.au with workplace details and to arrange an interview time.

Course Requirements

Student must attend interactive live sessions for collaborative learning, 2 hours on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Video recordings are used as revision tools and do not substitute for attendance and interaction.
Students must have their webcam on and speak to other students using a microphone.
Students must have an internet connected computer with webcam and microphone.
Students must complete 20 days / 150 hours of work experience placement.
The student and family will be expected to find their own work placement prior to the commencement of the course.
To demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines, Students will be expected to hand in one practical assignment task per week, which is completed in their own time in addition to interactive sessions. Up to 1 hour per task.

Up to 8 QCE Points

Students receive a nationally-recognised qualification on completion of this training.

20 Days of Work Experience

Students spend a minimum of 20 days /150 hours working at a placement of their choice.

This is an opportunity to explore potential careers firsthand before committing to a specific pathway.

Real World Experience

Course Information

Essential Equipment

This course requires students to present on a regular basis, and have webcams and mics turned on. This is 'a must' to satisfy industry standard requirements.

Students should set up a clear and quiet workspace with consideration of Government working-from-home guidelines. To attend online interactive live sessions for collaborative learning, students will need an environment free from distractions, and a computer with an Internet connection. The computer must include audio, a microphone and a webcam. This is very important and is part of your training in meeting the demands of the workplace for this industry.

You will be connecting to your learning sessions via webcam, so please ensure your internet connection is stable. It is a requirement of this course that ALL STUDENTS use their webcam and microphone during interactive sessions. Students that decline to use a webcam and microphone will not be considered eligible to continue the course. Webcam and microphone will be mandatory from week 3 onwards. A camera or smartphone will be required to take photos as evidence of practical tasks completed.

Course Structure

The course consists of two online interactive lessons per week. Students will also be required to do practical tasks in the workplace which can be up to 2 hours each week. Students must complete the required tasks across Projects 1, 2 & 3. Students will be required to participate in a minimum of 20 days (150 hours) of workplace experience and complete 16 workplace tasks.

Prior to Work Placement - Project 1

During this phase, students will select a work experience in a business and will sign a Workplace Agreement form. Once the agreement has been signed by all parties, the students may commence their workplace work experience. Students may do more than 20 days' work experience in agreement with the organisation.

Complete the Workplace Agreement form and supply the name and email contact of the main person responsible for student supervision at the organisation. Send the Manager/Supervisor’s email address to: christine.scott@faith.qld.edu.au.
Complete the 7 listed tasks listed and upload the required proof of evidence.
Attend Interactive Sessions via Zoom to complete lessons and coursework activities to prepare for the work experience.

During Work Placement Stage - Project 2

During this phase the student will attend the workplace for their work experience and follow the direction of the responsible person at that organisation. In addition, the student will complete a checklist of tasks to ensure that sufficient evidence for the qualification is collected.

During the work experience, the student will ensure that:

They are involved in an initial induction meeting outlining the organisation's expectation of the student.

Complete the initial meeting checklist.
Carry out all tasks led by the unit requirements and as directed by the staff of the organisation. Get a daily attendance sheet signed.
Complete the 16 listed tasks and upload the required proof of evidence.
Complete the Work Experience Tasks Checklist.
Take part in an end of work experience meeting with the supervisor.

Post Work Placement Stage - Project 3

During this stage students will reflect on their work experience placement daily duties.

The student will complete 3 listed tasks and 1 reflection task and upload the required proof of evidence.

Work Experience

Students will be required to participate in a minimum of 20 days (150 hours) of workplace experience and complete 16 workplace tasks. Students are responsible for finding their own workplace for their work experience placement prior to the commencement of the course. It is suggested that students chose an industry of interest (e.g. a future career option), as it is a great opportunity to familiarise themselves with the expectations of that job.

Work experience will be expected to begin prior to Term 2. An agreement with the organisation leadership and documentation will be provided for this placement.

Student Outcomes

This course is intended to prepare students for a career in a variety of business service job roles by building transferable skills.

Students receive a nationally recognised qualification on completion. In addition, students will receive up to 8 points towards their QCE when this qualification has been awarded. Another great outcome is that many students from previous years have successfully gained employment through their workplace experience.

What is the Course Application Fee?

The Course Application Fee is a non-refundable fee per course, payable to secure enrolment in the course.

Change Request: 30 Day Window from Course Commencement

The Course Application Fee will be applied 30 days from commencement of the course. Students may choose to withdraw within this 30 day window and transfer credit to be applied to another course from our course offering. Enrolment fees apply regardless of student engagement and/or attendance. Students who choose to withdraw after the 30 day window may do so, but must pay a new Course Application Fee.

Rollover Offer

When can students enrol?

Certificate I and Certificate II

Students can enrol at any time for Certificate I and Certificate II Courses. Generally, the courses take 12 months to complete from commencement. If a Year 10 or Year 11 student enrols in Semester 2, they will be offered a rollover choice to continue the course in the next calendar year. If a student enrolled in Semester 1, they will need to pay a new Course Application fee to continue the course in the next calendar year.

Certificate III

Certificate III Courses commence in Term 1 only. Rollover does not apply for Certificate III courses; a new Course Application Fee will apply if students wish to retake a Course.
