SIS20419 Cert II in Outdoor Recreation

In-Person Component

Outdoor Recreation is for students who want to be active, healthy and engaged in a variety of outdoor recreation activities and different environments.

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who assist with operational logistics and the delivery of outdoor education, adventure tourism and recreation activities, who work under the direct supervision of a manager or leader.

Students will investigate strategies and learn new skills to ensure they can keep themselves and others safe in a range of activity contexts and environments.

In our practical sessions, students will develop knowledge and skills related to rock climbing, paddling, and sailing. The climbing component will encompass both artificial (indoor) and natural (outdoor) climbing skills and techniques. Beyond kayaking, the paddling component will cover additional skills relating to the weather, navigation and operating communications systems and equipment.

Sailing will be offered for an additional fee.

Other Core Units that make up this course include;  Minimising Environmental Impact, Workplace Health and Safety, and Maintaining Industry Knowledge.

Our Certificate II in Outdoor Leadership is delivered via a blended format involving the use of live online lessons, face-to-face training blocks, assignment submissions, and assessment via direct observation in the field in a simulated work environment.

The practical component is delivered over 11 days in the field throughout Terms 1 to 3 inclusive. In 2026, our activity intensives will be delivered across the Brisbane and Sunshine Coast Regions, ranging in duration from 1 to 3 days at a time.
