The student must be a currently enrolled student at Faith Christian School year 10, 11 or 12 for 2024. The student will require an internet connected computer with a webcam, microphone, and sound. A camera or smartphone will be required to take photos and videos as evidence of practical tasks completed. Students must attend work experience and two 2-day intensives, to complete this course. 

IMPORTANT: Students will be required to download some software during the course to complete screenwriting and photo and video editing tasks. We have done our best to find software that is free of charge. Please note that software requires certain computer specs for smooth operation. The suggested minimum spec’s for computers is as follows:

Minimum Essential Equipment

• Smartphone ESSENTIAL

• Stabilisation of some kind (smartphone stand or tripod) eBay or Amazon under $50

• Headphones (earbuds that come with smartphone are fine as a minimum)

• Microphone (if doing interviews or dialogue scenes), you can buy cheap Lavalier mic’s $20 and upward or a more expensive Rode shotgun mic for smartphone for $110 Amazon or Ebay

• Portable Hard drive (for storing files). Portable hard drives can be purchased or under $100  (Seagate 1TB $69 on Amazon). The BEST option for students is a portable SSD of at least 1TB as students can record their video files directly from the camera onto the SSD via USB-C and edit directly (however these drives can be expensive: Samsung portable SSD T7 1Tb shield on Amazon Australia for $148 ).

• Computer with AT LEAST the minimum specs as above.

• WHS

On completion of all practical tasks, students will:

Have acquired the foundational skills needed to work in a number of assistant roles in media-based industries such as video production, film, sound, social media, and photography. This Course will also give students the core skills required to undertake further media studies.

Students will connect online twice weekly for 2-hour interactive learning sessions, using webcam, headsets and microphone. During the sessions, students will be introduced to new ideas and information, collaborate with other students on how to apply that information in their context, have the practical task demonstrated, have the opportunity to ask questions and commence the practical task while receiving feedback from the trainer.

Students must attend these sessions and have no other external obligations at the time. Interactive training sessions cannot be completed by watching a video after hours. You must attend the first session with an Exercise Book and Pen.

Just like in any workplace, students in this Vocational Course are required to attend their interactive sessions consistently, participate in class discussions and work together with their other colleagues. Students who do not attend 80% of the interactive sessions may not be eligible to complete the Course.

Students will also be required to do practical tasks which can be up to 2 hours each week. 

All evidence of the student completing a practical task must be uploaded into Learning@Faith

2 Day Intensives

This Course involves two 2-day intensives using commercial equipment in a production studio in the Brisbane Area in terms 1 and 3 (Dates TBC). Students participate in all aspects of shooting a video using industry work practices. Students gain valuable experience in working in teams (crews), collaboration, and in operating professional equipment in a studio environment. Attendance at these intensives is compulsory to complete the course. Accommodation with a local Faith family can be arranged for Faith students from areas outside of Brisbane. Full details and timings will be distributed to enrolled students.
